All summer I have been threatening “boring” (crystal clear and deep blue every day) skies. The time is about here. We are still getting a little cloudy afternoon activity, but not every day, and it seems to not be creating the spectacular sunsets. This one is from a couple of weeks ago. It is one that happened when I was home alone again and drove to get better pictures. There were many more colorful, but this one was on the drive, and I just liked the subtle color and the way the clouds seemed to be coming down to touch the earth.
To see LOTS more terrific sky pictures, head to the SkyWatch blog hosted by Tom, Sandy , Imac and Klaus.

September 18, 2008 at 1:53 pm
The clouds look as if they are rippling there in the sky. I imagine movement.
Awesome!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets in the car and follows the sky.
September 18, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Fabulous shot. Love the colors.
September 18, 2008 at 2:12 pm
It seems as though the clouds a radiating from the earth up to an unseen point in the heavens. Great photo.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Cheers
September 18, 2008 at 2:24 pm
For some reason this makes me think of The Wizard of Oz! Maybe because of the progression you are making down the road.
September 18, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Wonderful lovely sky with beautiful colours!
September 18, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Love the road leading into the beautiful, colorful sky. Yes, it’s nice to have crystal clear skies, but I’ve noticed cloudy skies make for more interesting skywatch posts.
September 18, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Beautiful picture… perfect for Sky Watch
September 18, 2008 at 2:40 pm
This is a very beautiful, sunset. It doesn’t has to be always a “thunderclap”. It is very romantic and subtle.
September 18, 2008 at 3:09 pm
I especially adore the curving road in this shot. It really frames up the clouds beautifully Louise!
September 18, 2008 at 3:25 pm
These colors, light and shadows come together to make a fine, fine composition. Good eye, Louise!
September 18, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Really a nice photo. I think it fits perfectly. Have a nice weekend, Louise.

I like the puffy clouds warmed by the waning sun. The curve in the road and the deep look of places along the street add to the mood. Well done.

September 18, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Beautiful sky, so much different from where I live. Mostly just big puffy cotton clouds.
September 18, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Pretty puffy clouds for your sky watch friday post. They do add lots of texture and interest to the horizon. Thanks for sharing and your kind comments on my post earlier.
September 18, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Give me a wide and smooth road with a sky to disappear towards, and I’m a happy girl. Cool post with beautiful clouds.
September 18, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Wow, if I saw that driving down the road…well I’d have to pull over so as to not run over anyone. Very pretty!!
September 18, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Good report and beautiful clouds.
September 18, 2008 at 6:54 pm

Lovely photo, Louise. I remember how we used to watch for clouds, hoping for a bit of moisture. Lately, I watch the clouds hoping for a bit of sunshine!

Great perspective on this photo, Louise! I like the subtle color too. The lighting makes the houses look warm and inviting. The clouds look like a fluffy blanket ready drop down over the town for the night. Well done!

There was a volcanic eruption in the Aleutians a few weeks back – I think it may have given you some fine sunsets.
This picture is calming and very nice.

I feel stupid, Louise, since I just find your personal blog for the first time.
I ‘ve found the collective blog, where I wanted to leave you a comment, but haven’t found a post from you.
We pass one another, on SWF comments, and I didn’t know if you posted a Sky yourself. Now, you’ll get me as regular visistor from France.
This week Sky seems to play with clouds. They have a strange and funny “formation”.
Love the effect of the road, it gives the impression that following the road, we’ll arrive to the Sky Watch Land.
September 19, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Heaven graces this photo beautifully. I love the way the clouds meet the horizon.
September 19, 2008 at 3:10 pm

September 19, 2008 at 4:27 pm
Oops…commented on the wrong one…my comment on the post below won’t make any sense, but it does for this post.
September 19, 2008 at 6:45 pm
I really like the lighting in this shot.
September 19, 2008 at 7:50 pm
I really like this shot and you have described it perfectly with your writing!
September 19, 2008 at 8:27 pm
I love how the clouds form lines and the angles they make with the rest of the picture.
September 19, 2008 at 9:00 pm
nice!
September 19, 2008 at 9:40 pm
It´s really striking and it´s something that just has to be photographed. I like the road too, it shows that you must have been driving too. Watch out, a cloudspotter driving!
September 19, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Nice composition of the clouds. They’re beautiful, must have made the day a great one!
September 19, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Hi Louise, those are pretty clouds in the setting sun. We are on the same track today.
Happy SkyWatching, thank you for your visit and nice comment.

Louise, that is very beautiful. I want to visit your part of the country again before I leave this earth.
September 20, 2008 at 7:11 am
Your photos never cease to amaze me! And did I read that you are rather new to the world of photography ? You have a unique talent – and I am glad that you share it with all of us! Enjoy your day!
September 20, 2008 at 7:20 am
I clicked for the larger view and that gives the picture much more impact. A fine image with that appealing curve. Well done.
September 20, 2008 at 10:35 am
I agree with don about the curved road…it really makes for a really nice composition, and the colours of the sky are also impressive.
September 20, 2008 at 8:48 pm
OK, your southwestern skies are rivaling my northeastern ones!
September 20, 2008 at 10:30 pm
I love these colors and the clouds look like one could just fall into them and bounce from one to another
September 21, 2008 at 12:14 am
Lovely shot. Skies can have some subtle and wonderful colors.
I couldn’t do SWF last week but posted some rainbow pictures as well as the boat racing in Salavan. My post is over here
September 21, 2008 at 11:03 am
This is a very engaging capture: the road, the colors, the composition, and of course those gorgeous clouds.
September 21, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Very pretty Louise. I loved participating in SkyWatch Friday but some how got out of it. I took a lot of road/sky shots at the time.
September 21, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Hi Louise! After a short break but a long absence, I’m finally back to the blogosphere. Love your picture with the clouds, but must confess that I prefer it perfectly blue…
Many thanks for your comments on Blogtrotter while I was off. It’s now on its way to Crete! Hope you enjoy and wish you a great week ahead!
September 22, 2008 at 2:17 am
I hope this is not a “smelly” comment, but I loved your picture! And BTW, most insects follow the smells of the flowers, not the colour.
PS Thank you for your nice comments!
September 22, 2008 at 2:50 am
Fantastic story-telling. I can empathize with you on this– drives my husband mad the way I don’t set cooking timers (don’t need to, I can tell by the smell when somethings at the right temp). That plane ride sounds like a nightmare…
September 22, 2008 at 1:15 pm
I love this story. Reminds me so much of all the horrible moments I’ve had on aeroplanes. Like when the person two rows back (yes, two rows back) vomited and it hit me on the back of the head…
September 23, 2008 at 12:27 pm
nice sunset.
