At the end of my Missouri stay, there were two evenings in a row with tornado warnings just north of where we were. This is where I grew up–right on the edge of “tornado alley,” but not quite in it. In fact, in all my life I have never actually seen a tornado, though I have seen much damage for them and many storms that produced them.
I miss Midwestern storms. Not the damage, but the thunder and lightning and excitement. And being on the edge of this one gave some interesting skyscapes.

The top photo is just stunning – all those great colors. And it is much greener than where you live now, right? Glad you never had to live through a tornado; that sounds scary indeed.
June 25, 2009 at 3:57 pm
I love that first image. It’s really pretty. I’ve never experienced a tornado either but that’s okay since I have had gone through earthquakes.

So beautiful pictures, but the fist one is my favourite! It’s really great, and these beautiful colours!
Thanks for sharing!

That first shot is gorgeous, like the clouds are torn open to let the light out. Wonderful capture.

They were all pretty intense but the last one was absolutely my fave.
June 26, 2009 at 12:15 am
Wow, these are all amazing. The power is palpable. I too miss a good thunder and lightning storm, but not the tornadoes. Excellent captures.
June 26, 2009 at 12:42 am
Beautiful images, so glad you are ok.
I woke up to powerful lightening last night followed by loud hail!
June 26, 2009 at 3:40 am
Thank you for your comment! Beautiful skies on your photos, and I can imagine that it’s amazing to see the sky when a tornado is in the area.

Very beautiful skies!!! All of them different but very beautiful!
June 26, 2009 at 9:40 am
You got some beautiful pictures of the evening sky. I thought the colors in the first and third were especially remarkable. I’m glad you’ve never experienced a tornado and I hope that keeps up!
June 26, 2009 at 10:38 am
Tornado Alley has grown to interstate proportions lately. There really is no edge of them. Beautiful skies!
June 26, 2009 at 11:30 am
Great colors. I find it difficult to get colors like that in Ohio in the summer Thanks Joe Todd

What a beautiful place you once called home. So green and pastural. That top photo is just gorgeous! And the bottom cloud photo is filled with drama. I like it!
Thanks, too, for visiting me, and for leaving me such kind supportive comments. It means more to me than I can say. I’m glad you enjoy my blog, too. Yours is such a joy to sit and down and immerse myself in.
I hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend, my friend.

What beautiful skies and as many have said the first shot is amazing.
June 26, 2009 at 12:27 pm
I love dramatic weather. We don’t have tornados over here, but I’ll take a good thunderstorm anyday
June 26, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Love the drama here…Spectacular shots!
June 26, 2009 at 2:45 pm
Grew up in MO, went to college at Kansas U. and never saw a tornado either.
BUT, the midwest lightening shows? Nothing better, more beautiful nor more impressive!
Those clouds in that last photo look like the precursor to a tornado to me!
June 26, 2009 at 3:23 pm
I love that term, “Tornado Alley”… and that second shot… WOW! Spectacular clouds!
June 26, 2009 at 4:27 pm
I love the third pic !!
Spectacular !!
June 26, 2009 at 9:21 pm
I agree with some of the others, the first picture is awesome. I’m really intrigued by midwest weather and tornados because they’re so dramatic; and probably because California weather, although beautiful, is very boring! Thanks for visiting my sky!

Hey! Some very nice storm photos. I think they would make excellent cards if you did decide to do photo cards. I can think of some corny sayings too. “There’s a storm a brewin’ in my heart. Come home soon.” or “Never a rainy day with you by my side.” Or maybe they would be better blank. LOL Nice blog!
June 27, 2009 at 12:13 am
superb shots all!
June 27, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Hi Louise! Wonderful shots, even if they announce a storm…
Blogtrotter is so happy to see you back! Have a great weekend!
June 27, 2009 at 12:55 pm

June 28, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Wow! That last view! I love skies like that – so unusual!
June 28, 2009 at 3:57 pm
Fantastic sky shots. I can’t imagine never seeing a rainbow. Life is too short to miss anything.
What good memories I have of VBS.
I came over from Ms. Chili’s blog. Your comment was so tender.

A beautiful series of sky photos, Louise. One seldom gets to see a rainbow in the type of clouds that are in the 2nd and 3rd photos.
