Another Prairie Sky. I have a thing for windmills. I do not often photograph them because I usually see them when buzzing down the highway at high speed. And they pretty much all look alike. (But I also love wind turbines and anything the wind blows for power, I guess.)
To see LOTS more terrific sky pictures or to find out how to participate in this meme, head to the SkyWatch blog.
Note: I don’t normally advertise my posts during SkyWatch, but if you like Laura Ingalls Wilder and are not a regular reader of this blog, my last post (for My World Tuesday) was about visiting some of her childhood haunts, and my next My World post (Monday, July 13) will be about the homestead where this picture was taken.

I like this kind of windmills too. By accident I shot three photo’s of a windmill that looks like the one in your picture yesterday afternoon. I have been thinking to use them for my SWF post, but the clouds were more spectacular in the other photo’s.
In contrast with my images you shot it with a very friendly sky.

I am so stoked when I saw that pic on post below. I am a huge Laura Ingalls fan, er on the tv show. I wanted to be her when I was little. I love everything about her.
I checked earlier if you had a post yet, so you really don’t need to advertise, we always always check in

I love this shot. So serene and beautiful. I think windmills are so beautiful and I never see them in my part of the world so this is a treat.

Louise, this is a great capture of the windmill. I love South Dakota, and have enjoyed your trip with you. Happy Friday.

Hi Louise, gorgeous shot of the windmill and that deep blue sky is stunning. I love windmills too but have never seen those huge turbine ones, only in photographs.

I have a thing for windmills, too. It looks beautiful and kind of old timey romantic against the blue sky.

Windmills are wonderful! I grew up in Texas where every direction I went (home, grandparents’ farms) – East Texas, Central Texas, West Texas – there were windmills. Love your picture today. (And I do notice all the wind turbines in same above places when we drive in Texas today!)

Splendid picture for Sky Watch, Louise.
About the woodcarvings of my post, I agree with you: the titles sometimes are superfluous because everybody sees in those sculptures something different according to his fantasy.

Not much marks a sky as well as a windmill or a mountain. Beautiful.

I just LOVE windmills!!!!!
Great choice!!!!
July 10, 2009 at 7:14 am
I love windmills too except for those new fang-dangled things. Not sure what to think of those, but if they generate, it’s all good.

I was fascinated by the windmills during my storm chasing trip in the plains. This is a terrific shot!
July 10, 2009 at 7:41 am
This is what I always imagine when I hear the phrase ‘the sky is big.’ Wonderful!
Happy Skywatch Friday!

If ever there was a windmill in a more perfect spot!
I hope Prairie and Windmill are happy together.

I think I now need to get not only a rainbow shot but a windmill as well .. tho I did get an interesting one in Bruges 10 yrs ago…
July 10, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Great picture, was the windmill actually moving, it looks as though there was not a breath of wind on the day you took this shot.
July 10, 2009 at 5:31 pm
This really shows up the big, big, prairie sky.

Louise: That is a neat sky photos, I really like windmills.

Louise – the windmill on the prairie is stunning. Being a new yorker, I never fail to marvel at the amazing images that come from places with high mountains (like say switzerland) and infinite sky (like the picture you’ve taken).
July 10, 2009 at 6:48 pm
Pretty! Hey, there’s a big Wilder event coming up here in Wisconsin – you should come!

This image REALLY takes «Louis» back to his childhood in the Texas panhandle… He can hear the pump working on the windmill on his grandfather’s farm…

Oh – Louise – I actually have one of the old washboards and am old enough to remember my mom using the ringer washer (she always cautioned me not to get my fingers caught!). It’s hard to believe that I, too, am this ancient! Loved the pic of the water dripping.
July 17, 2009 at 10:10 am
Absolutely a wonderful wind mill!
And a nice photo with the clouds behind.
