There’s not even a picture with this post. What is wrong with me?
No, I’m not down as in feeling bad or depressed or sick. (Not being sick seems unusual for the past few weeks. Thanks for all of your kind words while I was REALLY sick the last time.)
No, my computer is down. Apparently too much blogging can be bad for a computer’s health. This is not necessarily proven, but visiting so many places with so many hackers and viruses out there, it just didn’t bode well for the old thing.
So I am without computer for a few days… maybe a week. Maybe more. The old one is in for some major rework (including killer anti-virus software and a different browser), and we’ll be getting a laptop for the express purpose of blogging and Facebook. (Thanks, cousin and cousin for sucking me into THAT trap!) And don’t worry about my inviting you to be my friend on Facebook. I won’t. (Even though I’m really tempted to invite you.) I’m somewhat anonymous here, and somewhat not anonymous there, so I won’t be mixing the two.
So until then, I only have limited access to my husband’s work computer which is here in the event of an emergency. I’m thinking blogging doesn’t really qualify. So AGAIN, I’m not visiting, and I won’t be posting, even for Sky Watch and My World. When I get back, I’ll attack my way-too-full reader with a vengeance (between the last-minute baking/wrapping and all). I’m not sure when that will be. My “old” computer will be back in 4-7 business days, but I’d really rather just do it all on the “new” one so there are no risks of more infection. Believe it or not, I have a lot of other things going on besides blogging, and that missing computer is putting a major cramp in a lot of the work I do. (Including finishing my Christmas cards because my photos and formats for the inside part are in there.)
In the meantme, don’t hesitate to catch yourself up on all my unbelievably funny, enlightening and interesting older posts!

Trend Micro makes good virus protection. I also have SpyBot, which is good anti-spyware that comes with a free version. And I only use Firefox for browser, which has some protection built in.
Yeah, I would want to just use the new one, too. Glad it’s just your computer and not you that got sick this time.
December 18, 2008 at 11:30 am
I had a computer problem for a week and i got crazy. Don’t worry. We’ll be here waiting for you.
December 18, 2008 at 11:32 am
sorry to hear that louise. my husband had me install firefox, he said it’s much safer than explorer, so i hope were proactive here.
well this time away from blogging will give you more time stamping or something 🙂
i miss your posts really.
December 18, 2008 at 11:47 am
I thought you had a burn out or something but it was just a computer glitch. Sometimes those things just happen. That´s why I have 2 computers in case one stops working.
December 18, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Good idea to send it to be fixed rather than cleaning and tuning yourself (like some person I know who screwed up a motherboard and two hard drives with a can of air). We’ll still be here when you’re all set to go again. Hope the rest of your week is great and your Holidays are wonderful!
December 18, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Good luck with the new computer Louise. You’ll be missed. Have a very Merry Christmas.
December 18, 2008 at 3:03 pm
Now my computer is getting worried.
Take care!
December 18, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Sorry to learn of your computer issues. I’ve got some of my own I’ll need to deal with soon because my computer crashes fairly regularly. That said … I could USE a little extra time in the REAL world right now. Hope there are enough holiday distractions that you won’t suffer withdrawal.
Hugs and blessings,
December 18, 2008 at 5:14 pm
Darn computer!!!
We’ll miss you!
December 18, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Louise, Maybe the breather from blogging will be good. I’ll miss you, though.
December 18, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Sorry to read your sad story, Louise.
One can’t be careful enough at the internet. I’m using Firefox 3.0, ZoneAlarm Firewall, an anti-virus program, Spamfighter and a spysweeper.
Hope you’ll be online again soon. I’ve added your blog to my reader.
I wish you great holidays and Happy X-mas.
December 18, 2008 at 8:19 pm
We’ll miss you, hope your computer is back soon 🙂
December 18, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Ooh – I feel your pain! I go into a tail spin when my computer has to visit the Apple Store. Hope it’s quicker than what they said. Glad you’re on FB. Very important to have a dedicated machine for blogging and FB.
December 18, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Louise, I thought to see one of your splendid Sky Watch and…
Of course I’m waiting for your coming back. But, how can be possible that a computer completely stops? It’ really incredible.
Have a good weekend!

Hi Louise! With a 48h day I would have time to enjoy your blog more often; shame on the time controller… ;))
Come on, don’t let you down… We need your great pieces of writing around!! It’s always a bit selfish, isn’t it?
Loved to see your world pictures!
Meanwhile Blogtrotter is departing Tunisia 2007, but managed to keep the delay in posting on twelve (12) months only. Great achievement… ;)) Enjoy, comment and have a great weekend!

December 22, 2008 at 1:07 am
You’re down but not out. We’re just hanging around awaiting your return.
December 22, 2008 at 4:09 am
We’re like twins! My computer is in the hospital too. It’s gone to the home for bewildered Macs, but is up for parole tomorrow.
It’s cost me 160 euros to get a new hard drive put in after the old one gave up the apple ghost. Meanwhile I’m working off my teeny tiny work co,puter, which is giving my big fat sausage fingers quite a lot of grief!
And invite me to be your friend!!! Don’t be mean.
December 22, 2008 at 4:38 am
I wish you, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
December 22, 2008 at 10:04 am

December 22, 2008 at 5:58 pm
It would be nice if Santa were to bring you a nice MacBook Air……but just in case he doesn’t, I won’t be posting much fot the next 2 weeks, so you won’t have to catch up on my stuff.
December 23, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Dec 11th. That is one cold sky!
Hope your computer’s up and running soon. Mine is but might as well be down as I’m sidetracked with the holidays.
Best to you and yours,
erin

I can share in your grief on this one…my power cord snapped in two and I was without for a week. It was a tough week and I’m still playing catch up! *sigh*

Computers are a bit like men – can’t live with them and you can’t live without them ! 🙂 Seriously now ~ I hope all is well. I am back in the saddle again after a brief blogging hiatus. Hope all is well with you and yours – Happy Holidays.
December 29, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Still down?
December 31, 2008 at 3:01 am
“I’m down” can conjure up so many things.. my first was “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”. 🙂
I’m glad it’s not you or the family with viruses!!
When you come back on, I’ll be down because of some glitch in our move– I’ll be broadband-less for*sniff* about a week.
So, I’ll tell you ahead of time, Happy New Year!!!!
December 31, 2008 at 12:51 pm

“Louis” has been absent – very, very busy with his new espresso shop.
“Louis” et Mme la Vache wish you all the best this New Year!

[…] Here you learned that I was without computer. We were not happy. Who is when that happens? But it was right at the holidays. We thought it was going to be a week. It turned out to be two weeks, and it’s still not back to where it was yet. There is still stuff to load back onto it, and we have two computers now instead of one. (And my new one, though unbelievably small and cute, is difficult for me because the keyboard is so small.) […]

Great photo! Colors are fantastic. I camped through that area (down around I-10)about 13 years ago and I remember the gorgeous sunsets. My son lives down that way now in El Paso (teaches at UTEP).

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Louise!
Beautiful and I just love Arizona. They always seem to have a nice sky.
