Today I am taking a break from my Utah trip more than a month ago to show you a place we found this weekend due to letterboxing. We have been hunting boxes for over two years and started planting boxes this past spring, but we had never been to a letterboxing event before. This one was nearby, so we went, and what a good time we had!
El Rancho de las Golondrinas is a place I might have never known about were it not for this event. (The way a lot of places are–we find the COOLEST places by letterboxing.) We arrived late, and I am not terribly into people pictures, so this post just shows a little of what I saw. Because we were late, we really only had time to find boxes, not explore the museum, but we will go back; it is a very cool place.
This event also brought me face-to-face with the first person I have ever met through blogging. I actually knew of her family before blogging due to letterboxing, but that connection made us notice one another in the blogging world. So I met Rapunzel from Laughing Orca Ranch as well as her children. She has a picture of that (I pray she does not post it; I’m horribly non-photogenic!), but I did not get one. But for a much different (and more thorough) view of this incredible museum, go to her post here.
So here is what I saw of the museum in the midst of my frantic efforts to find 12 letterboxes in a very short amount of time.
My World is a weekly meme in which participants are virtual tour guides. Go check it out and see the worlds of others. Or better yet, take a look at the guidelines, and do your own My World Post!

See! You did get some great pumpkin pictures! All your photos turned out great. I didn’t post most of my pics yet from the event, though. The ones I did post were just got the Sunday Stills Challenge for ‘Fall’. I’ll post more in the next couple days…and the pic of the two of us, too! hehe! We’ll both look goofy together. It was wonderful to finally meet you, your hubby and your girls.
Thank you for the beautiful peach cards. You are very talented. I hope we can get together again sometime in the future.

You’ve made some beautiful pictures of that a wonderful place again, Louise. Specially the pumpkins and the butterfly are great, but my favorite is that old mill.
I still don’t know what ‘letterboxing’ is, but at the moment I’m too tired too read all the explaining text. I’ll try to read it later …

Of course I had to google viceroy vs. monarch butterflies, and you are spot on! The bottom part of the viceroy always has a second black stripe, monarchs don’t. Now I’m wondering how many times I’ve mistaken a viceroy for a monarch…hmmmm…
October 1, 2009 at 3:32 pm
Maybe? not so much. Viceroys are less common and slightly smaller, but I think they just look different. I can’t explain it, but this did not seem like a monarch to me which is what made me look it up.

great photos! we are geocachers, cousin to letterboxing. we’ve never found a letterbox yet, but have heard from people who did. do you also geocache?
October 1, 2009 at 3:32 pm
No, we don’t geocache. We love the stamping aspect of letterboxing.
Do you have a blog? The URL wasn’t in this comment, and I’d like to visit you if you do.
Thanks for your visit!

Letterboxing (and geocaching) do take us to such wonderful places! I love the flowers and sweet butterfly but those pumpkins totally fit this time of year!

Those were some big ears and the light just loves them! That pumpkin shot was so great and it looks good on the banner too.
