In August I promised to do a post on Antelope Island for My World Tuesday. Finally, here it is.
Although I have been to Salt Lake City many times for conventions for my business, I had never been to the lake. This time my family and I made a point to spend part of a day there, and we chose Antelope Island. Wise choice. We will go back every chance we get when we are in Salt Lake City.
We really thought the lake would be pretty non-exciting and smelly. It smelled a little, but was not bad. It might be worse at different times of the year.
We drove the 17-mile length of the island and took one hike. There are thousands of birds there as well as antelope and buffalo. (We only saw buffalo.) What a beautiful place. (Most pictures can be enlarged when clicked.)

This is the view one direction from the causeway as we were leaving. The number of birds along the causeway was astounding. And the colors and reflections captivated me.
My World is a weekly meme in which participants are virtual tour guides. Go check it out and see the worlds of others. Or better yet, take a look at the guidelines, and do your own My World Post!

I just added another name to my list of places to visit. Utah and the Salt Lake have been there for a while, but Antelope Island was completely off my radar. Lovely day, lovely place – how nice that you could share them with your family.

Your landscape photography is superb! The rich colors are fabulous. My husband and I just visited the Lake Mead area a week ago. I have posted some very colorful photos of that amazing “red rock” place.
I must visit Antelope Island sometime…it looks just like the places we love!
Beautiful!

Wow, I’ve seen Antelope Island countless times but have never taken the time to go there. Perhaps I will now.
Great pictures.

The buffalo and the view atop the boulder are my favourites–they are so painterly.

«Louis» has been to Salt Lake a number of times – but never actually to the lake, so he enjoyed these photos.
He was also happy to see you had visited.

You’ve found some fantastic blue scenes again, Louise. It’s great to see such an uncultivated area. The reflections in your last picture are wonderful again.

Were you tempted to go in swimming? They say it’s impossible to sink with the high salt content. When I was a little boy, on a family trip to Yellowstone, we stopped and I tried floating on my back, but I really couldn’t tell if the salt water gave me any more buoyancy. I was the only one in my family brave enough to go in the water — but my father had been telling us how he swam and floated in it as a young man. The problem was that I didn’t rinse off well enough after getting out of the water — it was horrible as I had encrusted salt in my hair and ears that I really wasn’t able to completely wash off until we got to our destination that day. Don’t think I’ll try that again…
