My last My World Tuesday post had a little about the Indian Slant Village near Mandan, North Dakota.
This photo is of a lodge pole outside an earth lodge at the village. Apparently these interesting items have to do with spirits and the religion of the Mandan Native Americans.
For the record, before I moved to New Mexico, I compared all skies to “North Dakota” blue.

That looks a bit scary, but it sure will have its function. Interesting !

The lodge pole off sets your fantastic blue sky Louise.

That’s a version of the totem pole, only a little scary for my taste. Reminds me of all the scary movies that have scarecrow in them.
Enjoy the weekend.

Looks rather ghostly against that almost North Dakota blue sky.

Great capture, Louise.

What a beautiful blue sky in the background. A beautiful picture.

My first association was that of a scarecrow, but I understand this is something holy or sacred.
Whatever it is, it suits the beautiful blue sky.

Nice way to capture the sky with the pole as the subject. Have a nice weekend, Louise.

Looks like a “Kapu” Stick of the Hawaiians. Crossed, they indicate a no-go zone for commoners.
Aloha, Louise. Always see you at good blogs so I thought I’d say “Aloha.”

I agree: interesting item. Really a nice and unusual picture, Louise.
Happy Sky Watch!

I love this photo – the little chap looks a bit mournful, though. As one would, I guess, if one is permanently stuck on a pole like that.

So impressive blue sky!Cool shot!

This photo made me laugh. Without meaning any disrespect to the Mandan (or my own Cherokee ancestors), my first thought was of Jeff Dunham and José Jalapeño on a Stick. It’s a great shot, Louise, and a beautiful sky!

Gosh that’s a beautiful North Dakota sky 😉 I’ve heard my father-in-law say that more times than I can remember. He left ND a few days ago and has already spent time in Washington, Oregon and now is heading down to Arizona. I wish I was with him on that trip. Great photo and an interesting ‘spirit’ artifact.
