Yesterday our family went to the National Indoor Track and Field Championships that were being held in Albuquerque.
I went to a very. small. parochial school, so we never did competitive sports, but once a year we had a track and field day. I LOVED it, and although I am pretty much not a sports fan, I love track and field. The athletes amaze me.
I fully admit my pictures are lousy unless you are into impressionism (which I am); I have absolutely NO experience with indoor, action photography. After uploading these I realized a couple of things I could have done differently to make them better, but it was difficult to see the pictures well on the tiny screen, so I did not realize all the blur until I uploaded. But I wanted to share a few pictures with you anyway since we had such a fun day with our kids.

Men's hurdles, 60M. (I love the short races. The athletes were like lightning in the 60M hurdles and dashes.)

Pole vault is something I always wanted to do but never had the least opportunity. It looks so fun to fly upside down, so high, up over the bar.

This is my favorite picture. I loved the blurred color. I believe it is the women's 60M hurdles. (The effect is better if you click to enlarge.)
My World is a weekly meme in which participants are virtual tour guides. Go check it out and see the worlds of others. Or better yet, take a look at the guidelines, and do your own My World Post!

My youngest ran cross-country for four years and participated in track for three. I enjoyed watching the races and events too (as long as the weather was nice.) I like these blurry shots, it captures the notion of their speed. And, wow, that pole vaulter–what a body!

Experienced in this kind of photography or not, you certainly captured the speed and grace of these athletes!

I have to say I agree with Louis as well.
A very appropriate post following in the heels of the culmination of the winter olympics.
I like the sprint too, marathon and those long 1500 m races just bore me 😀

I’ve always like the pole vaulting, too. It’s not something they do around here though.

My favourite is the upside down pole vaulter!

Louise, your photos are fabulous. Love the last one.

Great you were there with the kids!
I don’t think you’ll make it as a sports photographer, but specially the last one is a very nice colorful artistic impression of the championships.

Louise: Fun shots, settings indoors with all the action are hard to capture. You did a good job of representing the speed.

I love track & field events too but haven’t been to a meet in a while. I love your slightly blurred photos because they suggest the action taking place. I need to learn to use the ‘sports action’ setting on my camera when taking photos of my neighbor’s dalmatian because the puppy moves so fast she’s almost ALWAYS blurry.
Hugs and blessings,

[…] Sunday after we left the Track and Field Championships, we saw this foreboding sky. We were not in a place to get a good picture so hoped it would last […]

I can see you HAVE been very busy. It’s wonderful to be so creative! I know the feeling about being super busy. And just because it’s self-imposed, doesn’t make it less worth while than a money-paying job. Volunteers are extremely important people!
